My Dad was Born in Hatfield, Massachusetts on May 20, 1924.

July 2006
Dad wasn't feeling well, he was sitting on the back of his pick-up truck and passed out. We took him to the hospital, they said they were putting in a temporary pacemaker and they were going to put in a permanent one the next day, took dad awhile, then he started feeling good

This is when it all started, dad getting sick. Mom called and said he wasn't eating, so I called the health center and made an appointment for him that saturday afternoon. They did some tests and a chest x-ray and said they would let us know, we never got the results

March 10, 2007 - May 5, 2007
Dad wasn't feeling well, so I took him to the ER, this is were we found out he had severe emphysema and he never smoked a day in his life, he spent days in the hospital. He was getting better and was sent home, only to be back 7 more times, each time he got worse, getting COPD, Congestive Heart Failure, pitted edema. he was on all kinds of medication, he would come home from the hospital only to go back in a week or so. He ended up on oxygen. He was going to pulmunary theraphy, he fell one time when he went to shut off the tread mill and stopped walking before he shut the machine off, fell on his left side. The hospital never checked him out for any injuries, which they should have. He ended up going to the calvin Coolidge nursing home for rehab. The first week he was doing well, then he got a mouth infection, my opinion it was from not cleaning his breathing treatment mouth piece, he stopped eating and drinking because his mouth hurt so much. It took them a few days before they ordered him some medication, it didn't seem to work, I told them his mouth was still hurting, they did nothing, his ankles were swelling up and they did nothing. I took him home on a thursday, he loved being out of there, he hated being in the nursing home, took him home on friday and again on saturday. before I took him saturday  I again told them his ankles were swollen and his mouth still hurt, they said take him home and when you return we will check him out and see if we need to call his doctor, well he never went back, he fell at home and broke his hip because he was nauseous from not eating or drinking very much.

Dad broke his hip on May 5th, May 7th he had a hip replacement, he was doing well after surgery in CCU, then they sent him to the 3rd floor were he seemed to go down hill, they never got him up to do therapy, thursday, I called the hospital and told them he wasn't looking well, they called me back and said they were going to give him a blood transfusion, he also got diabetes and he never had that before. Friday they sent him to Hamphire care nursing home for rehab, they got him up to walk, but very little, from what I found out later, he had fallen many times and we were never notified, so he was afraid to walk, afraid of falling again, and I don't blame him, he was not being taken care of in my eyes, then his legs and feet were so swollen, this is when the pitted edema all started

Dad's birthday, we had a big party for him, we had strawberry shortcake. he opened some presents and then we all went outside, let some balloons go and just sat around until around 4:30. We took him back inside. I seen his nurse and she said he had a slight infection on his left arm, she called the doctor the night before and he gave him some medication, she said they were watching it. We all left, about an hour later my dad called me and said they were taking him back to the hospital, the infection was 10x worse. The infection spread up his whole arm, The infectious disease doctor said it was Methicilllin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection, caused by staphylococcus aureus bacteria — often called "staph." He said he may have gotten this from a blood transfussion a few day before or from the nursing home. My sister from ohio flew out and stayed with him 24/7, then my other sister from Indiana flew out and stayed with him 24/7. During this 10 day stay the edema got worse, then a little better with higher doses of lasics. He finally was release. We had to take him back to hampshire care, we wanted to get him into another nursing care center, but there were 5 other people ahead of him. I did not like this rehab center. I was going to see him 3- 5 times a day, I had to keep an eye on him, they were not doing their job as far as I was concerned. They all hated me there, becasue I let them know how I felt. I wanted my dad home. Well, they let him fall in therapy again, he dislocated his hip, that did it, he wouldn't walk or stand again, he was so afraid they were going to let him fall again and they want to put him on antidepressants, we said NO, what did they just want to drug him up? we just wanted to bring him home so bad.

I went to see him at the nursing home, got there and they said he was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, his right foot had a bruise on it, where he got this we have no idea, so I headed right to the hospital, he was so tired of going in and out of the hosptial, this was the 7 time since march 10th, They started treating the infection, along with other things. He was doing well, then not so well, then well agian, it was Saturday June 23rd, my sister Sharon from ohio had been out here for another week, she just left and was headed home. My sister Linda was on her way hear from Indiana, this time coming with her whole family, it was their yearly visit. It was Sunday. My sister and I brought my mom to the hosptial, we went up to see dad, he wasn't doing well again, he didn't want to eat. he didn't know what was the matter, he just didn't feel right. My mother was trying to feed him his food, he didn't want to eat but, he did eat a little, but wasn't feeling well, so she turned up his oxygen, little did she know, the oxygen was not going to my dad, but into his breathing treatment hose that he had earlier that morning. She didn't realize that until the nurse came in around 4:30, when she checked his vital signs, his oxygen level was 46, should have been around 95, what it had been all along, she then checked it again and went over to his oxygen, followed his hose to the floor, my mother heard her say something like OH MY GOD, then she unhooked the breathing treatment hose and hooked my dads oxygen back in, so that meant my dad had been without oxygen for at least 4-5 hours that we know of and maybe longer causing all his vital organs to go into distress. The nurse called in the doctor and he gave him 100% oxygen and sent him up to CCU where my dad died 6 hours later at 1:00 am June 25, 2007. I believe he died from negligence. I will not rest until I get to the bottom of this. Don't know what I will do, but someone is going to hear from me about this, I want anwsers
